About Point Loma

Point Loma is a beach community in San Diego, California that is located on a hilly peninsula. The gradual height of this land affords residents spectacular views of the bay, Coronado Island, the ocean, and the city’s downtown district.

Point Loma is bordered by the San Diego River in the north and the Pacific Ocean on the south & west. The San Diego Bay and Old Town are to the east. This community is comprised of several individual neighborhoods like Plumosa Park, Wooded Area, Fleetridge, Roseville, and Loma Portal.

The neighborhood of Liberty Station within this community has two sections with one for military housing and the other a subdivision that was created by the McMillin Corporation. You’ll find many homes influenced by a Spanish architectural design. The military neighborhood has 500 units, most of which are townhomes, as well as sports facilities and playgrounds. The civilian subdivision features row homes, single family homes, and town homes. The La Playa neighborhood is comprised of 40 bay front homes and ten condo complexes by the beach. You will find some of the most expensive real estate in the region here.

The San Diego Unified School District is the second largest in the state. Students in this community may attend facilities like Point Loma High School as well as highly ranked Loma Portal Elementary School and Correia Middle School. There are hundreds of private institutions like the Calvary Christian Academy, Escondido Adventists Academy, the Montessori American School, and Halstrom Academy. Public universities include the University of California (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as the San Diego Community College District.

Golf enthusiasts have several venues in the city including The Loma Club which features an A. G. Spaulding nine-hole course as well as tournaments and lessons. There are many shopping venues in this area including Point Loma Plaza, Rosecrans Shopping Center, and the West Point Loma Plaza Center.
